Business Insider's Grace Dean is reporting that Chipotle is launching new sustainability focused restaurants across the United States.

Chipotle has unveiled a new restaurant design with a focus on sustainability. These all-electric restaurants will be powered by renewable energy from wind and solar sources, supported by the purchase of renewable energy credits. Some locations will feature rooftop solar panels and EV charging stations. Dining areas will feature chairs made from cactus leather and biodegradable cutlery, cups, and straws.

In 2022, Chipotle transitioned to fully compostable plant-based fiber for its bowls, quesadilla trays, and kids' meal trays. The company also plans to expand its vegetarian and vegan menu options. Chipotle aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and has already opened restaurants with this sustainable design in select locations.

While not all new restaurants will adopt this design, over 100 new locations in 2024 will feature all-electric equipment and other sustainable elements.
